DOMAINE DE MOURCHON

The stunning medieval village of Séguret is perched on one of the hills adjacent to the beautiful and slightly mysterious Dentelles de Montmarail mountains. Domaine de Mourchon is perched high on the hill above Séguret giving the fortunate few who work the vineyards spectacular views of the Rhone valley below and the surrounding mountain range that includes Mount Ventoux. The vineyards cover 24 hectares and have supplied the regions wines for generations; but it was not until Scotsman, Walter McKinlay bought the vineyard estate in 1998, that a winery was built and wines were first produced wines under the Domaine de Mourchon name. Through a combination of tradition and progressive vine-growing and winemaking methods Walter McKinlay has, in an incredibly short space of time, established an impressive international reputation for his Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret wines. His wines have an intensity and concentration of fruit flavours which reflect, in part, the low yields of his vineyards that clutch the high rolling slopes above Séguret. This achievement is all the more impressive given the Domaine was a retirement project for Walter and his wife.
